National Police Chief Major General Jose Armando Polanco Gomez has ordered the transfer of colonels Pedro Cueva Valenzuela and Jose Damian Pujols, heads of the Criminal Investigations sub-office, for alleged irregularities in the exercise of their duties.

According to El Dia, Polanco Gomez took the decision to transfer them receiving a document from prosecutor Faustino Pulinario, accusing them of professional misconduct. Listin Diario reports that the accusations involve selling prison orders to people detained for serious crimes and for receiving bribes from drug traffickers.

The police chief also ordered the transfer of all Criminal Investigations sub-department members.

He described them however as "routine transfers" despite the fact that the Internal Affairs department is investigating the case in question. Listin Diario quoted him as saying that, "the transfer has nothing to do with the prosecutor's report," adding that if the investigation establishes that the officers had broken the rules, ethical code, or any law, sanctions would be taken against them.

Polanco Gomez said that officials who have spent several months in one post could be transferred at any time.
