A new legislative proposal would have Pro-Consumer watch out for the application of a law that is now in the Chamber of Deputies. The bill, by means of which the purchase and sale of used car parts and accessories for motor vehicles would be regulated in the businesses that sell them, was introduced in the Chamber of Deputies yesterday. The initiative presented by the At-large PLD deputy, Angel Ramirez Taveras (Rico), establishes penalties, in the case of violations of the law, of six months to two years in prison or fines of a minimum of five minimum salaries to as much as 20 minimum salaries. The legislation provides for recidivists to have their businesses closed down either permanently or for as long as the judge orders. The same penalties will be applied to individuals or commercial establishments that have acquired or sold the used parts. In another of its articles, the legislation establishes that the merchandizing of parts can only be carried out by individuals or businesses that are dedicated to the purchase and sale of parts and used parts for motor vehicles, supported by the purchase invoice or the Customs receipts that certify that the parts were imported and that the said business establishment possesses the proper license.
