The Minister of Public Works, Victor Diaz Rua, reported yesterday that the two overpasses and the tunnel on Ortega y Gasset Avenue, all part of the Duarte Corridor Consortium, would be delivered in the first three months of 2012. Diaz Rua said that the Ortega y Gasset Avenue tunnel would be completed in December and delivered in January. This will be followed by the overpass at the intersection of the Duarte Highway and Monumental Avenue in January, which is currently at the level of the beams, and in March they will finish and deliver the overpass that goes on the Duarte Highway at the intersection with the Manoguayabo Highway.
In a visit to the overpasses of the Duarte Highway, the Minister of Public Works announced that they would put a National Asphalting Plan into action in December, and in March they will begin the second phase of the Duarte Corridor, which includes overpasses on the 27 de Febrero Avenue at the intersections of Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Privada Ave., and Isabel Aguiar. The total cost of the second phase of the Duarte Corridor is estimated at US$200 million. Diaz Rua also announced that they would issue a tender for the overpasses on Jose Nunez de Caceres and John F. Kennedy, Fernando Defillo and Kennedy, Jose Ortega y Gasset and 27 de Febrero, Charles De Gaulle and San Isidro Expressway, as well as two other overpasses on 27 de Febrero.
