Cost considerations are forcing Dominicans to control their use of propane gas and the results are seen at the point of sales. Year-on-year sales have fallen by 27 million gallons or 8.2%. The increase of 23.7% in the price since November 2010 seems to have lowered consumption from 330 million gallons to 302.9 million gallons over the past year. According to El Caribe, overall fuel consumption also fell. In October 2010, the nation consumed 109.6 million gallons of fuel, and in October 2011, consumption totaled 101 million gallons, according to figures from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. Month by month, fuel consumption has been consistently lower than in 2010. In large part, this is due to the increases in the price of LPG, gasoline and diesel, which increased by as much as 32% in some cases.
