The Gigantes del Cibao, led by pitcher Lenny Dinardo and batters Alexi Casilla and Carlos Peguero, defeated the Tigres del Licey in the venerable Estadio Quisqueya, 5-3 yesterday evening. This is the fifth victory in a row for the Gigantes, and seven out of the last nine games, as they attempt to leave the cellar in the league standings.

In San Pedro de Macoris, the Estrellas Orientales shut out the Leones del Escogido by a score of 6-0, with homeruns by Matt Gamel and Felix Pie. The hot bats were backed up by really good pitching by six pitchers, with Stolmy Pimentel getting the victory.

In Santiago de los Caballerso, the Aguilas Cibaenos met the league-leading Toros del Este in a head-to-head battle for first place in the standings. A four-run first inning settled things in the Aguilas' favor as Joaquin Arias, Audy Ciriaco and Hector Luna all got big hits, driving in Herrera and Rosario who got bases on balls. After that it was up to just four Aguilas pitchers to seal the deal and Shane Youman, the big left-hander turned in six complete innings of shutout ball and in the ninth inning with the bases loaded, TJ Pena, the shortstop turned pitcher, got the last out and earned his third save of the season. The victory puts the Aguilas in first place, something that has been a long time in coming.
