Central Electoral Board (JCE) Judge Mariano Rodriguez has made it clear that at no time did he express disapproval about fellow judge Aura Celeste Fernandez's attitude and her work, or her right to question dealings at the JCE. Another JCE judge, Eddy Olivares called for harmony among judges so as not to affect the work that needs to be done. Olivares, nevertheless, is in favor of the RD$66,000 incentive.
Meanwhile, Fernandez has received the support of the National Ethics Commission and Fight Against Corruption president Jose Joaquin Bido Medina who said that the JCE should explain the RD$66,000 in incentives being paid to judges, which Fernandez rejected on the grounds that it breached the law.
On the matter, JCE president Julio Castanos Guzman said that he would seek advice from the Chamber of Accounts, the government audit office, about the controversial incentive payment.
Fernandez continued to criticize procedures at the JCE. Yesterday she questioned why JCE judges are allotted pension plans after working for just three years while all other public officials must be at least 50 years old, and need to have worked for more than 20 years to qualify.
