Moca jail riot ends in one death

In the early hours this morning a riot in one of the nation's most infamous jails, the 2 de Mayo facility in the city of Moca in Espaillat province, left one inmate dead and at least three others injured, according to relatives interviewed by reporters from El Caribe.com. The inmate who died this morning was identified as Lorenzo Bautista Vargas. He was allegedly killed by blows from a machete. The dead inmate remained in his cell and his aggressors stopped the prison guards from getting to the body. The prison has been under virtual siege after two inmates were transferred to another facility for causing disturbances in the prison.
