Ironically, just as the authorities were announcing a 29% decrease in crimes in Santiago, a prominent businessman reported a RD$3 million theft from his company and at least seven other robberies took place over the past 24 hours. The money was taken from Accesorios Industriales Jaime, located at the corner of Bartolome Colon and J. Armando Bermudez avenues, one of the major intersections in Santiago de los Caballeros. The spokesman for the National Police Central Cibao Regional Command, Colonel Lorenzo Morillo Pelagio, told reporters from Diario Libre that as of yesterday afternoon no-one had been detained in connection with the crime. On Monday the Los Primos mini-market on Espana Street was robbed of cash, phone cards and alcoholic beverages. In Cienfuegos, a sports and lottery betting parlor called La Famosa was also robbed of cash and its inverter, while in Pueblo Nuevo thieves robbed a call center and stole several computers and a plasma television set.
