The Dominican Republic and Qatar have agreed to establish a strategic alliance that will provide the country with natural gas and bring new investments in the areas of tourism and real estate. The agreement signed by the Minister of Foreign Relations, Carlos Morales Troncoso and the Prime Minister of Qatar, Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani will be implemented by the Qatar Investment Authority. As a part of the alliance, Qatar, which has the third largest reserves of natural gas in the world, is willing to provide this fuel through long term contracts as the Dominican Republic starts to change it energy matrix. As reported in El Nuevo Diario, the new partner's plans include the establishment of a Regional Center for Excellence in Dealing with Natural Disasters, which will provide rapid response mechanisms for relief efforts and reconstruction without logistical difficulties.
