Speaking in Cartagena, Colombia, President Leonel Fernandez revealed that the GDP of the Arab world and Latin America totals over US$10 trillion dollars, equivalent to the world's second largest economy. The President stressed that there were over a billion people and a total of 55 nations in the two areas, representing a third of the membership of the United Nations. Fernandez urged the membership of the Arab-Latin America Forum to search for common elements that would allow the partnership to become a great international force. He noted that some 18 to 20 million Arabs have immigrated to Latin America.
