PRD presidential candidate Hipolito Mejia plans to launch a card next February, called "La Morena de Solidaridad" as a way of dealing with what he described as "a dirty campaign" by the government through a similarly named social plan. According to a report in Diario Libre, he called on the PRD rank and file not to be fooled when asked for their "cedulas" (personal ID cards) in order to give them the Solidarity card. "One final recommendation: The only weakness that we have is the dirty campaign, fundamentally with the solidarity card. Watch out... be really careful with this," he said. He assured his party that with this card, which he said he would deliver "the right way," for "our people and for the people outside and those who are receiving it like before." He stressed that the use of the Solidarity card began during his government, through the Ministry of Education. The former president said that he is not capable of playing with people's and poverty and deprivation.

Mejia was speaking during a swearing-in ceremony for the PRD National Female Command at the Dominican Fiesta Hotel. He urged the audience not to be frightened of some polls that he said were "made up" and then released. Nonetheless, he did refer to another poll published last Wednesday in which the results coincide with the PRD stats. He added that although "it is not a high percentage, it is a pretty good average." For that reason he said that he did not have the least doubt that he would win on the first ballot.
