The PLD and the PRD had effusive praise for Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado's efforts, the only positive result of yesterday's meeting.

Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado's mediation in the crisis affecting the Central Electoral Board (JCE) following the resignation of the administrator general of Information Technology (the Computer Center), remained in limbo yesterday after the PRD and PLD parties failed to reach an agreement and left the next meeting up in the air. "This afternoon new issues have come up. There has not been 100% agreement on the original proposals by each party and then some new elements came up, which each party agreed needed to be discussed with their leadership," was all that Monsignor Nunez Collado would reveal about the discussions between the PRD and PLD general secretaries Orlando Jorge Mera and Reinaldo Pared Perez yesterday afternoon at the third meeting which went on for more than two hours.

Immediately and without answering any questions from reporters, Nunez Collado gave way to Pared Perez, who expressed his support for the mediator role carried out by the rector of the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM). "The PLD, through this commission, gives its support to Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado in his role as mediator in this impasse which had come about at the JCE".

Jorge Mera then expressed himself in similar terms. "We would like to express in the name of the PRD our total support of the extraordinary mediation work that Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado has been doing in this impasse which exists at the JCE."

Despite the fact that neither of the political leaders explained the reasons for their statements in favor of Nunez Collado, they came a day after Pared Perez described the prelate's statements as "unseemly", when he said last Tuesday that the JCE should free itself of "all who could sow doubts or worry in Dominican society." Moments after the end of the official statements on the meeting, Pared Perez said that the expressions of support for Nunez Collado were not any sort of a public apology. "They were spontaneous."
