The Tigres del Licey will host the Toros del Este at the Estadio Quisqueya tonight in a duel that will be a face-off between two Cuban left-handed pitchers, Francisley Bueno and Raul Valdes. Both men have been playing in the country for several years and both men have 2-2 records so far this year. This is the premier game tonight in the Dominican Winter Baseball Championship. If the Tigres can win, they go into a first place tie, and if the Toros can win, they will distance themselves from a strong rival. According to some sport analysts, there are now two divisions in the standings: The "A" group - Toros, Aguilas and Licey, and the "B" group, Escogido, Gigantes and Estrellas.
Tonight the cellar-dwellers of Escogido with a 14-21 record will travel to San Francisco de Macoris to face the Gigantes del Cibao in the Julian Javier Stadium. The Gigantes are tied with the Estrellas in fourth position in the standings at 15-20. In this game, Jorge Sosa will be pitching for the Leones. For the Gigantes' Aquilino Lopez, with a 2-1 record will take the mound, and his 2.20 ERA does not bode well for the Reds. Lopez is on a hot streak, coming off consecutive five-inning, no-hit, outings against the Estrellas and Licey.
In the night's other game, the Aguilas Cibaenas will travel to the Tetelo Vargas Stadium to play the Estrellas Orientales. Kenji Otanari will pitch for the Aguilas, against Jose Rosario for the Estrellas.
The standings for the tournament are: <b>Team <b>Win-Loss <b>Average <b>Games behind TOROS 21 - 14 .600 -- AGUILAS 21 - 14 .600 -- TIGRES 19 - 16 .543 2.0 ESTRELLAS 15 - 20 .429 6.0 GIGANTES 15 - 20 .429 6.0 LEONES 14 - 21 .400 7.0 </p>
