About 3% of passengers traveling through Las Americans International Airport (AILA) miss their flights because they do not arrive the required three hours in advance. The manager of Delta Airlines in Santo Domingo, Dorian Martinez says that missed flights by late-arriving passengers has gone down by 2% over the last five years because of the penalties imposed by the airlines on people who are forced to travel on other flights. Because of all the pre-flight checks of baggage and documents, passengers are required to arrive at least three hours ahead of time, which allows for any issues to be resolved. However, if there are large numbers of passengers, a latecomer will not have sufficient time before the baggage inspection area closes one hour before flight time. Many people do not understand the need to arrive early. Some of the common errors are that the ticket has been issued to a passenger whose name is different than that on the passport or the passport is out of date or that a visa is required for a change of flights at an intermediate point. Of course, overweight bags are always an issue when checking in.
