According to reports in most of today's newspapers, another small craft loaded with 95 passengers and trying to reach Puerto Rico, capsized off Matancitas on the north east coast over the weekend. The National Meteorological Office had forecast heavy seas and a small craft warning was issues for the entire north coast. Since the accident, Nagua Civil Defense director Minerva Santos reported that three bodies have been recovered and the agency and other units were searching for more. The three victims were from San Francisco de Macoris, Nagua and San Pedro de Macoris. Initial reports said that the boat hit a reef and broke apart. Navy units that went to the area said that the boat was totally destroyed.
