A company that collects used oil for recycling has incorporated the latest technology in order to produce "Mexdiesel" fuels and protect the environment. El Caribe reports that the company, Pro Energetico SRL, collects vegetable oil as well as lubricants and prevents the ecological damage caused by dumping these oils into watercourses. Jose Manuel Pina told the newspaper that one liter of oil can pollute 1000 liters of water. The company invested US$2 million in the technology and has the capacity to store millions of gallons of used oil, which is then converted into fuel. The handling of the sludge from the used oil is carried out under the guidelines of the American Petroleum Institute, which prevent contaminants from entering the ecosystem.
