On Friday night, the "Cuban Duel" between Francisley Bueno and Raul Valdes was held in the Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo. The victor was Bueno and his teammate Willy Mo Pena, and the Tigres del Licey defeated the Toros del Este, 4-1. Over in San Francisco de Macoris, the Gigantes del Cibao pushed the Leones del Escogido further into the cellar with a 6-3 defeat of the Reds. Alexis Casilla went 3-4 and scored three runs, and Luke Montz and Yeral Sanchez got key hits. And in San Pedro de Macoris, the Aguilas Cibaenas defeated the Estrellas Orientales for the eighth straight time this season, something even the old-timers can't remember happening before. The 15-2 score came about as the Aguilas broke open a fairly tight game with seven runs in the sixth inning and added another four in the seventh. The nine Estrellas that took the pitching mound were unable to halt the onslaught of Elian Herrera (3-4), who extended his hitting streak to 18 games, Wilin Rosario (3-5, double, two singles, two runs scored and three RBIs), Brian Bogusevic (4-4) and Hector Luna (2-4, two triples, 4 RBIs).
On Saturday evening, the Estrellas Orientales came back and defeated the Tigres del Licey 7-5 in the Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo. Catcher Dusty Brown got the key hit, driving in two runs that were the margin of victory. In the Francisco Micheli Stadium in La Romana, the Gigantes del Cibao were able to defeat the Toros del Este in their own backyard. The 9-3 final score does not reflect the tight game that was played for six innings. Losing 0-3 in the first inning, the Toros came back to tie the game in the fourth, but their relief pitching could not hold back the hot bats of the Gigantes, with Alexis Casilla, Wilin Valdes, Brad Nelson and Luke Montz providing much of the punch for the Big Guys from Macoris. And, in a game that put all of the nation's newspapers to bed, the Aguilas Cibaenas defeated the Leones del Escogido 7-6 in a 17 inning game that ended at 3:00am, over six and a half hours after it started. The two teams used 23 pitchers and got 31 hits (Escogido 16 and the Aguilas 15). The Aguilas came from two runs down in the eighth inning to tie the score and take the game into extra-innings. The heroes were once again Wilin Rosario and Joaquin Arias.
On Sunday, the Aguilas went to Santo Domingo to play the Tigres del Licey. Neither the fact that the game was dedicated to the great radio and television announcer and sports caster Tomas Troncoso, or the fact that they had had little sleep seemed to bother the Aguilas as they shut out the Tigres, 4-0 on the outstanding pitching of Shane Youman. Youman pitched seven innings of shutout baseball. He was followed by Luis Perdomo and TJ Pena who completed the whitewash. The big bats of Elian Herrera (2-4), and Wilin Rosario (3-4) combined with clutch hits by Joaquin Arias, Audy Ciriaco, Victor Mendez and Juan Perez to seal the deal. Aguilas stay in first place.

The Estrellas received five very good innings from star pitcher Manaury Baez, who allowed just one unearned run to score. Once again Argenis Reyes and Felix Pie, Mike Fox and Matt Gamel were the hitters when it counted.
And in La Romana, the cellar-dwelling Leones del Escogido shook off their bad playing and took a 6-3 game from the hometown Toros del Este. Josh Donaldson drove in three runs as the big bat for the Reds.
