President Leonel Fernandez has joined the other leaders who signed the statement of the XIII Summit of Heads of State and of Governments of the Tuxtla Dialogue Mechanism and Agreement. The Tuxtla Declaration asks the United States and other drug consuming nations to adopt more drastic and efficient measures to track and cut off the flow of money from illegal activities by criminal organizations. The declaration says that to significantly reduce organized crime, the most desirable thing would be a reduction in demand for illegal drugs. The declaration calls for "the elimination of the exorbitant earnings of the criminals, including regulatory options..." and the national leaders say this topic is one of the principal challenges for their countries.
