The Customs Department (DGA) made it clear yesterday that the facilities for increasing the ceiling for imported presents brought by travelers during the Christmas season from US$2,000 to US$3,000 only favor Dominicans who live overseas and come to the country to spend the holidays with their families and friends. Rafael Camilo explained that travelers who leave the country for a vacation and come back within the dates of this dispensation are not covered by this privilege. Listin Diario did not make this clear in its report. However Camilo warned that "Many people believe that everyone who comes from overseas is covered, but only overseas residents are given the opportunity to bring their families two television sets, two refrigerators, two stereos, but not so many as to appear commercial."
