As the first round of the Dominican Winter League Baseball Tournament winds down, with just 14 games remaining, each game for the Gigantes del Cibao, the Estrellas Orientales and the Leones del Escogido is worth two, as the fight each other for that all-important fourth spot in the standings. The Round Robin portion of the tournament will be between just the first four teams, and the lights will be turned off in the stadiums of the fifth and sixth place teams until next October.

Tonight the Leones del Escogido will host the Estrellas Orientales at 7:30 in the Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo. The Leones are 15-23 and the Estrellas are 17-21. The two teams are tied for the least number of runs scored so far in the tournament, 140.

In San Francisco de Macoris, the Gigantes del Cibao will receive a visit from the Tigres del Licey. This is a game between the two worst teams in tight games. Fabio Castro will pitch for the Gigantes and Ramon Ortiz will take the mound for Licey. In one-run games, the Tigres have lost 8-12 and the Gigantes are 3-9.

In La Romana, the Toros are on a three game losing streak, and they will be playing the Aguilas Cibaenas, who are on a five-game winning streak. The Toros will send Miguel de los Santos to the hill and the Aguilas will have Barret Browning pitching for them.
