Dominican Exporters Association president, Kai Schoenhals, says that the country's exports would reach US$7.4 billion this year, some 5% more than in 2010. He added that with the traditional export leader, Falconbridge, returning to production and the start of the Barrick Gold Mine operations, he expected to see national exports accounting for 50% of all exports in 2012. During a dinner celebrating Dominican Exporters, the keynote speaker was Irvin LaRocque, the new secretary general of Caricom. LaRocque told the audience of exporters that formal relations between the Dominican Republic and the Caricom nations were somewhat limited and there was a marked need for greater integration.
