Eighteen illegal migrants of a total of 27 missing after their boat capsized on a reef during an illegal voyage from the coast of Matancitas in the northeastern province of Nagua to Puerto Rico were rescued alive by another boat making the same illegal trip to the neighboring island with 45 people on board. Nine travelers are still unaccounted for, after their boat capsized with 95 people on board. Three bodies have been recovered. The eighteen people who were rescued managed to reach Puerto Rico together with the 45 already in the other boat that had also left DR shores last Sunday. Those rescued promised to pay the captain when they reached the neighboring island.

Diomedes Gonzales, Maria Angeles Villa and Agripina Vasquez Gonzales, relatives of several of the survivors, revealed this information to the media yesterday.

The survivors include Vladimir Alvarado Villa, Miledys Garcia, Nino Garcia, Franklin Vasquez, Rafael Volquez, Zoila Maria Serrano, Petra Velez Gomez, Carlos Manuel Gracia Garrido, Juan Berrocal Gomez, Pastor Medrano, Daniel Alvarado, Cesar Garcia, and Josefina Cuello Tribell, who called their relatives from Puerto Rico. The survivors told their relatives that after the boat capsized they were drowning, but the other boat, which had also left at dawn on Sunday rescued them, and they arrived in Puerto Rico on Monday night, suffering from dehydration. They also said that they had reached an agreement with the "captain" of the boat to pay him when they manage to get "some money."
