A technical mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) began gathering information on the fiscal situation of the government on Tuesday. They are exploring alternatives for financing the national electricity sector, according to the announcement by the Minister of Economy Planning and Development, Temistocles Montas. The first meeting took place at the Central Bank headquarters in the presence of officials, and representatives of the institutions that make up the government's Economic Cabinet, reported Montas.

"Right now there is a meeting at the Central Bank with government officials and the IMF mission that is gathering up information on the fiscal situation of the country," said Montas, while answering questions from reporters at the Presidential Palace after taking part in the meeting. This IMF mission is in the country basically to go over the issue of the electricity sector with the Dominican authorities, he explained. "This is what they are dealing with because at the bottom, the issue of the electricity sector is what introduces the economic part of the government and the pressure on public expenditures," said the official.
