The Tigres del Licey, the Leones del Escogido and the Gigantes del Cibao were victorious in their games last night, which tightened up the standings just a bit. The Tigres visited the Aguilas Cibaenas in the Estadio Cibao and whitewashed them, 4-0, behind the good pitching of Ramon Ortiz who pitched six innings of scoreless baseball. For the Aguilas, their starting pitcher Kenji Otonari was nicked for four runs, all in the third inning, when a base on balls, a wild pitch, three singles and a homerun by Jonathan Solano produced the four runs that spelled victory, and ended the Aguilas' six-game winning streak.
In Santo Domingo's Estadio Quisqueya, the Toros del Este visited the Leones del Escogido and were defeated by a score of 9-6. The Toros enjoyed a 5-0 lead before the Leones came back with one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and six in the sixth inning to seal the victory. Once again Josh Donaldson, Wilkin Castillo and Pedro Florimon were the hot bats for the Leones.
In the night's other game, which took place in San Pedro de Macoris, the Estrellas Orientales were defeated by the Gigantes del Cibao in a struggle for fourth place in the standings. The victory put the Gigantes one game ahead of the Estrellas. The Gigantes took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, which was answered by three runs from the Estrellas. After that, the Gigantes added runs in the second, third, two in the fourth and a final run in the seventh inning to win the game. For the Gigantes it was Alexi Casilla (3-5) who led the attacks, followed by Wilson Valdez (2-4, including 2 doubles) and Robinson Diaz (2-4) who were the big bats. After Aquilino Lopez could not get but one out in the first, a half-dozen Gigante pitchers allowed only two hits in the remaining 8 2/3 innings. Jose de Paula got the win.
