Some forty percent of public and private sector employees who receive their Christmas bonus will use it to pay debts, according to a survey by Consumer Protection Agency ProConsumidor.
The debts they will cover with the double-salary include loans and credit card payments.
In response to the question "What will be the main use for your double salary?" 39.1% said they would use it to buy electrical appliances, clothes, shoes, entertainment and the ingredients for the Christmas Eve dinner. 20.9% said they would save the money.
The survey was conducted between 19-30 November via phone calls and e-mail messages, and promoted via ProConsumidor's website. Respondents were aged between 19 and 51, 60.2% women and 39.8% men.
According to ProConsumidor, the survey sought to analyze people's spending and consumption patterns during the holiday season in order to provide efficient and up to date advice to the public.
