In Santiago, the Aguilas Cibaenas defeated the Gigantes del Cibao by a score of 7-2 and reduced their magic number to just one. Either a win by the Aguilas or a loss by the Tigres del Licey will guarantee the Santiago team a spot in the Round Robin section of the Championship. Thanks to seven very fine innings pitched by Lorenzo Barcelo and outstanding hitting by veteran Mendy Lopez who brought home four of the seven runs, the Aguilas coasted to a relatively easy victory.

In the Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo, Pedro Florimon, the shortstop of the Leones del Escogido, hit a bases-loaded double in the seventh inning to break a scoreless tie and give the Leones a much-needed victory, 3-0 over the "eternal rivals" of Licey.

In the Francisco Micheli Stadium of La Romana, the Toros cut short their losing streak and defeated the Estrellas Orientales by a score of 9-2. The debut of James Van Ostrand with two RBIs in the first inning and very good pitching by Raul Valdez, helped the Toros break a five-game losing streak that took them out of first place an into a tie for second in the standings.

The standings for the tournament are: <b>Team <b>Win-Loss <b>Average <b>Games behind AGUILAS 26 - 15 .634 -- TOROS 22 - 19 .537 4.0 TIGRES 22 - 19 .537 4.0 LEONES 18 - 23 .439 8.0 GIGANTES 18 - 23 .439 8.0 ESTRELLAS 17 - 24 .415 9.0
