Five people were killed in a horrific crash at the Canabacoa crossroads on the Duarte Highway after a car, loaded with passengers, attempted to cross the highway, apparently - according to witness accounts - without looking. The violent crash took the lives of Braulio Garcia Ledesma, who lived in Punal Abajo, Virgilio Grullon de la Cruz, Esmarlyn Ramos, 23, Wessin Nicauly Ventura, 19 and Yina del Carmen Checo, 26. The intersection is known to be a dangerous spot, despite the overpass that leads to the Hispano-Americano Avenue in Santiago.
