In a long article in today's Listin Diario, reporter Hector Urbaez examines the lifestyle of Puerto Rican fugitive Miguel Rivera Diaz (Bolo) during his more than ten year run from the law. According to Urbaez, Rivera Baez lived in the barrios like "one of the guys," shunning the luxurious accoutrements generally associated with drug lords. Considering that the United States federal officials are accusing "Bolo" of shipping 2,500 kilograms of cocaine to Puerto Rico over the past five months, somewhere between US$40 and US$50 million was involved and completely unaccounted for. The reporter described the house where Rivera Baez lived as "a kind of bunker, with only the roof being visible from the road..." He also noted that there were good escape routes to the north and south. Interviews with people in the barrio of Holguin in Herrera painted a picture of a man who had his hair cut at local barbershops, drank and played dominoes with the local people and did not appear to have a lot of money. It was mentioned that he had two children by a Dominican woman, but none were seen at the house. Rivera is believed to have traveled extensively during his years as a fugitive, including trips to Las Vegas and New York. He is facing at least two charges of murder in Puerto Rico, as well as the drug trafficking indictments.
