Bloody weekend at the Dario Contreras

A total of 333 traffic accident victims were treated at the Dario Contreras Hospital in Santo Domingo East over the weekend, an indication that, indeed, the Christmas holiday season is getting into full swing. The trauma hospitals in the capital, the Dario Contraras and the Ney Arias Lora are gearing up for the patients that they know from experience of years past will be arriving in their emergency rooms every day. The "Dario" has admitted over 10,000 accident victims this year, more than 25% of all emergencies since 11 December. Over at the Ney Arias Lora Hospital, over 90% of all the cases that they dealt with were from traffic accidents. In preparation for the influx of patients, the Ney Arias Lora Hospital prepared 50 new beds and increased their specialized personnel. Both the director of the Dario Contreras as well as the director of the Ney Arias Lora hospitals called on the public to take preventive measures to avoid situations that might cause sorrow during this time of the year.
