In a move as unusual as it was rare, and only balanced by the severity of the event that caused it, the University Council of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo has expelled a student leader. The Council of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) permanently expelled yesterday the secretary general of the Amin Abel Student Liberation Front (Felabel), Omar Bido Vasquez, for assaulting another student in the University Dining Hall. Announcing the expulsion, university rector Mateo Aquino Febrillet warned that cases of this kind would not be allowed. "Any student who becomes involved in vandalistic actions like this will have to take responsibility for their actions, because they will be expelled without a second thought," he warned. Bido Valdez, a medical student, was expelled for attacking engineering student Androbal Oviedo with fists, pipes, sticks and rocks, during an argument in the University Dining Hall.
