Municipal workers and employees of other decentralized and autonomous institutions will have to wait to collect their Christmas bonus money. This is because the Chamber of Deputies has postponed dealing with the legislative proposal that will authorize the Banco de Reservas to issue a loan for RD$1 billion in bonus money until Thursday. Also on Thursday, a proposal will be heard that will authorize the Banco de Reservas to extend a US$210 million credit line that the Ministry of Hacienda has with the bank for 12 months.
The spokesman for the PRD bloc of deputies, Ruddy Gonzalez, said that this proposal should be treated as if it were a loan to a private individual. Also left on the table was a US$200 loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for the sustainability and efficiency of the electricity sector, which authorizes the Ministry of Hacienda to issue bonds in the internal market for RD$18 billion to support the 2012 budget. The deputies approved, after a second reading, a proposal allowing the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology to issue exequaturs to professionals who have completed their university studies.
