The defendant in an extradition case, Oscar Ezequiel Rodriguez Cruz, has told the Supreme Court of Justice that he knows President Leonel Fernandez and that he issued a certified check for the campaign and that his "friend" in all of this was the former Minister of Education, Melanio Paredes, who even visited his offices. Rodriguez Cruz also said that the current PLD Senator for San Juan de la Maguana, Felix Bautista was someone who knew him as well as Hector Reyna, who he said was an uncle of the President. The accused drug trafficker told the court: "Our friend in this was Melanio Paredes who even went to my office, today he says he does not know me, ask him. Melanio Paredes, Hector Reyna, the President's uncle, now they don't know me. You did not see how frightened engineer Felix Bautista was, he did not want to face the camera, and he says that he does not know me, well ask them if they really don't know me. Ask them," he insisted.
