The executive vice president of the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE), Celso Marranzini, said yesterday that the electricity distributors would be providing 24-hour electricity for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. According to El Nuevo Diario, everyone will have electricity from the evening of the 24th until dawn on the 25th. And on Christmas Day, the circuits denominated "A" and "B" will continue to have electricity throughout the day. Circuits "C" and "D" will receive four more hours of electricity than usual.
The announcement came at the end of a press conference where Marranzini announced a tender for the expansion of the nation's generating capacity by up to 1,000 megawatts, with the possibility of expanding this to 1,500 megawatts. The tender, according to Marranzini, will allow the country to obtain electricity at competitive prices. He said that the objective of the new bidding process was to attract both local and foreign investments in the energy field with the installation of coal or natural gas-powered generators of 256 megawatts or more.
