Washington Capital Energy has announced an investment of US$250 million in an energy park using solar power in the area of Guerra in the province of Santo Domingo. The 50-megawatt facility is due to be built in the tiny village of Mata de Palma, in Guerra, in the northeast part of the province. Washington Capital Energy president Serge Guaribian made the announcement, stressing the fact that the Dominican Republic has great potential for installing solar energy electricity generation facilities. The construction of the installations in Mata de Palma will create 250 new jobs in the formal sector. Frank Fulcar, the local representative of Washington Capital Energy, told El Nuevo Diario reporters that the new power plant would provide huge benefits to the entire area.
