The District Attorney of Higuey confirmed yesterday afternoon that the body of Santos Seda Rodriguez, the pilot and owner of the aircraft from which 58 kilos of cocaine were seized at the Las Americas International Airport on Sunday, had been found, as reported in Diario Libre. Lucas Evangelista Perez said that the 48-year old pilot's body was found in the bushes at Kilometer 15 near a batey by the highway before reaching Higuey.

Puerto Rican Santos Seda Rodriguez, a resident of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, was the owner of the Beech 95-B55, twin-engine aircraft with tail number N 355 DL where the drugs were found. The airplane had been parked at AILA for a week. The body showed signs of violence and at the time of its discovery was face down, and had been dead for seven or eight hours, according to Evangelista Perez. The body is being examined in the National Forensic Science Institute (Inacif) in order to confirm the cause of death.

The aircraft where the drug consignment was found is registered in the United States and is listed by the Federal Aviation Administration as belonging to Seda Rodriguez who was said to have six other airplanes of a similar type and who has a previous record of drug trafficking.

According to the flight plans, the plane made frequent trips between Puerto Rico and returned to the Dominican Republic, with the last flights being the fifth and the seventh of this month. In connection with the case the authorities have arrested agents Vladimir Peralta Santos and Wilfredo Antonio Avila Vasquez of the National Drug Control Department (DNCD) as well as a civilian, Salvador Gomez Feliz. According to the DNCD report, Seda Rodriguez fled after being tipped off about the drug seizure.
