Temperatures plummeted to 10°C in Constanza, where local people are keeping warm by wearing heavy coats and lighting fires in their houses. According to the local Meteorological office, the low temperatures in Constanza and Jarabacoa are caused by cold airflows from the northeast affecting the area. A broad cloud cover has been registered over much of the north of the country in the last few days, especially over the mountains.
According to the Meteorology office at the Cibao International Airport, Chary Ledesma, temperatures could reach a low of 7°C in Constanza over the next few days. The recent cold weather is reported to be causing a noticeable increase in respiratory ailments.
