Limits on the sale of alcohol in the Dominican Republic were lifted as of midnight of Tuesday, 20 December, marking the official start of the peak Christmas holiday season. The alcohol sales limitations will be reinstated on 8 January. The Ministry of Interior and Police had announced the extension of alcohol vending hours in November. Normally, alcohol sales are restricted to midnight on Sunday through Thursday, and to 2am on Friday, Saturday and holidays.
Parallel to the no limits on alcohol vending measure, the government is undertaking major nationwide safety operations with the Police and the Emergency Operations Center.
