I'm trying to book a flight from Orlando Fl to Puerto Plata in March, flights are $680 to $690. Found out it much cheaper to fly to Santiago, but how much would it cost to get to Sosua from there and is it worth the time and hassle?

A cab will cost anywhere from $50-$80 depending on the driver and your negotiation skills.

Or you can cab it to the bus station and take Caribe tours or Metro for a fraction of that.
the buses leave approximately every hour on the hour.

It's not worth the hassle. Fly directly to POP if its a hundred dollar difference. Remember you have to arrive in Sosua by taxi then go back to Santiago by taxi.

Bus round trip from Santiago to Sosua is 340 pesos ($9). Takes approx. two hours each way. Taxi to and from the airport in Santiago to the bus station approx 900 pesos round trip.

that is way too many dollars to fly in and out of the DR........

flights from Orlando to Montego Bay, Jamaica are a heck of a lot cheaper.......
Jet Blue and AirTran fly nonstop to Montego Bay.....like $250 -$300 R/T.....why waste money on airfare
with the price difference you can stay twice as long in Jamaica....and everyone speaks English
and the punani is aweesome!

Yeah the bus trip might suck, and that date migth not work for you, but anyday from 239 to the highest is 356.....

But lets say you want to fly direct to pop, you just dont want the hassles its mostly 491, but i found 433 at the end of march:

So I found a cheap ass spirit flight for a little over 300 to santo domingo, and AA to POP for a little over 400 for no hassles, ie free pop on flight, luggage, no taxis/bus needed.

You need to automatically add the.carryon luggage to the spirit price. I havent seen direct out of miami lower then 495 in a while to pop.

Wtf i check the same exact date but from MIA- Pop and i got a quote of 463.70.

flying into POP from Florida is very expensive period...and hasn't been cheap for about 2 years
and don't forget to add about $70-$150 to those flights on Spirit......with all the add on's
most of the guys I know are paying $230 or under to get to Montego Bay, Jamaica from Florida.....
around half of what it cost to fly in and out of POP.........

I understand spirit charges for extra stuff, but what i listed spirit at 350 with hassle or 435 AA with out hassle were both a lot better then 680 or whatever the dude quoted.

I agree completely and people should also remember another important point if you are limited on how long you can stay and can't or don't want to spend the last night in Santiago. Think about this-- the roads often have accidents and rock slides ect. plus many car accidents and the potential for a cab to have a flat tire or other mechanical problem causing you to miss your flight.

4 times I have flown out of Santiago because even though I flew into POP I chose to fly out of there to extend my stay or make a different connection in Miami I wouldn't be able to make and even though I rent a car I still had to pay extra to drop it off at a different airport (about $50). I saw many accidents and cars broke down and chose to stay in Santiago to make a 9am flight where you are supposed to be at the airport at 7am. No way would I chance that cab ride in the morning at 6am in the dark and worry about missing my flight. Relax on your vacation unless you have an afternoon departure spend the night in Santiago, it has some hot women.

Man your bitching about Florida. Try Texas. It's gonna cost me 600 to get to STI with one stop. 840+ into POP.

after reading all of the post, I think that I will fly into Santiago if the prices are about the same in January when I'm ready to book, and if I can get a flight back in the afternoon which would eliminate the need for going back to Santiago a day early. I'm also traveling with my newbie wing man who can split the cost of a taxi with me.
