The Dominican Republic's only Miss Universe, 26-year old Amelia Vega has married NBA star basketball player 25-year old Al Horford. Their relationship had been kept private until Hoy newspaper broke the story over the weekend, announcing the wedding would take place on Christmas Eve at the home of her aunt Nora Vega and uncle Juan Luis Guerra, the mega-famous Dominican popular singer and composer. As reported in the local press, many of the guests that attended the Christmas gathering at 5pm were indeed surprised.
Amelia Vega won Miss Universe in 2003, and Al Horford is a center and powerforward for the Atlanta Hawks, with many a successful season behind him. Vega lives in Miami where she runs a store and recently released her first album Agua Dulce (Fresh Water).
In a recent interview, Amelia Vega played and won the match against controversial TV host Jaime Bayly, but there was no mention that she was seriously involved with someone.
