According to a survey by the ASISA firm, more than 600,000 people will be traveling to the provinces to celebrate the arrival of the New Year with family and friends. This is nearly 100,000 more than traveled on Christmas Eve. Of course the survey also shows that well over a million will stay at home and celebrate with friends and family. Last weekend some 23% of the population of the National District took to the highways, while in Santiago, only 10% went away for the Christmas holidays. According to a report in El Nuevo Diario, most people will attend a religious service, and more than half will be visiting relatives. Over 40% intend to paint their houses and 26% said they are planning to do some remodeling over this week and weekend. Of course gender determined the nature of some responses with over half of the males saying that they were going to enjoy some drinks while nearly 70% of the women said that they would be attending religious services.
