35 new Judges for the Supreme Court of Justice, and the new Supreme Electoral Court and Constitutional Court are expected to be sworn in now on Wednesday, 28 December, after the event set for 27 December was postponed. One of the issues is that neither of the two people chosen as substitutes for Jose Manuel Hernandez Peguero on the Supreme Electoral Court have accepted the post, and Julio Subero Isa refused a seat on the Supreme Court after being removed as Chief Justice.

The judges of the three higher courts were elected last week. The new Constitutional Court (13 justices) and the Supreme Electoral Court (5 justices) are being assigned a RD$250 million budget in the 2012 National Budget, and could operate in the Centro de los Heroes governmental complex. The Supreme Electoral Court is under presiding judge Mariano Rodriguez, the Constitutional Court under presiding judge Milton Ray Guevara and the Supreme Court of Justice (17 justices) is now to be presided by judge Mariano German.
