The National Business Council (Conep) is calling on the newly appointed Supreme Electoral Court, Supreme Court of Justice and Constitutional Court judges to work on organizing the nation's judicial system and to take on a firm commitment to strengthen the independence of the Judicial Branch and of the rule of law. Conep underlined the importance of the constitutional requirement that three-quarters of the membership of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) must come from judges who are career members of the judicial system. Conep also praised the fact that there was transparency in the selection process, which yielded three candidates for each position. The leadership of the nation's commercial sector did express concern however about just how the National Judicial Council (CNM) had evaluated the performance of the judges of the Supreme Court, saying that "the decision to remove a judge of the Supreme Court by means of an evaluation of his work, if not done on an objective basis or is left to the discretion of the CNM, brings into question the ideals of permanence and judicial autonomy."
