The Ministry of Culture announced the government is granting RD$40,000-RD$50,000 monthly pensions to a long list of artists, many well known painters with works going for upwards of RD$100,000.

Those benefitted are:

Painters Elsa Nunez, Julio Llort, Jose Felix Moya, Jorge Severino, Amable Sterling, Rosa Tavarez, Jose Ramon Rotellini, Hugo Matta, Jose Perdomo, Roberto Fabian Flores, Gabino Rosario, Antonio Roberto Pena Perez (Cuquito), Norberto Santana, Angel Hache, Maria Aybar, Nancy Rosado, Danilo de los Santos, Rafael de Lemos. Also photographers Domingo Batista, Gonzalo Briones and Juan Perez Terrero, and artistic promoter Marcial Frias.

Also benefitted with a cultural pension are Marcial Emilio Schotborg Javalera, Mayra Violeta Ubiera Baez, Lizet Mejia Pena, Isa de Pena Santos de Echavarria. Pensions are also authorized to singer Jose Manuel Lopez Balaguer, National Symphony Orchestra conductor Julio de Windt, musician Gerardo Batista Acosta, and writer Mateo Morrison, at present a deputy minister at the Ministry of Culture.
