The National Traders and Business Federation (Fenacerd) told reporters from Hoy that sales in the run-up to Christmas had been fabulous, although they were not quite up to expectations. Ricardo Rosario said that the sales this coming weekend might be even better because the people tend to go to smaller stores for what they need.
On the other hand, the president of the Mercado Nuevo Traders Union, Luis Taveras, said that their sales had exceeded expectations on Friday and Saturday. The president of one of the bakers' unions, Hector Delgado, said that sales were good but not fabulous. Rosario told Hoy reporter Ubaldo Guzman Molina that sales during this first part of the Christmas holidays had been fairly good, above all in the bigger stores along the major commercial arteries of the Capital. He said that sales at local colmados and colmadones had been better on Saturday and Sunday. He suggested that the fact that Christmas fell over a weekend this year might have influenced the sales figures.
