On Wednesday, 28 December, President Leonel Fernandez, acting in his role as president of the National Judicial Council (CNM), swore in the new justices of the Supreme Electoral Court, the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court of Justice at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace. The process for selecting the judges began on 11 August and concluded on 21 December.

In his inaugural address, Mariano German Mejia, the new president of the 17-judge Supreme Court of Justice promised to give continuity to the work of his predecessor Jorge Subero Isa. Subero Isa did not attend the ceremony. In the selection, he was elected one of the justices, but did not accept the appointment.

"Without justice there cannot be democracy or economic development, and by achieving justice and economic development we achieve peace," said German. The justices are: Mariano German, Miriam German Brito, Julio Cesar Castanos Guzman, Esther Agelan Casasnovas, Alejandro Moscoso Segarra, Sarah Henriquez Marin, Frank Soto Sanchez, Jose Alberto Cruceta, Juan Hiroito Reyes, Roberto Placencia, Martha Olga Garcia, Francisco Jerez Mena, Ramon Herrera Carbuccia, Victor Jose Castellanos, Edgar Hernandez Mejia and Dulce Rodriguez de Goris. The CNM needs to meet to choose the replacement for judge Subero Isa.

The president of the new five-judge Supreme Electoral Court, Mariano Rodriguez Rijo promised to work to strengthen democracy and the Dominican electoral system. "We promise that this new institution, for which we have been entrusted with the responsibility of shaping will fulfill the mission of strengthening democracy and the electoral system." The justices are Mariano Rodriguez, Mabel Feliz Baez, Marino Mendoza, Jose Manuel Hernandez Peguero and John Guiliani Valenzuela.

Constitutional Court president Milton Ray Guevara praised President Leonel Fernandez's work in creating the new body to protect fundamental rights and said the new 13-judge court was a first step towards guaranteeing genuine rule of the law in the Dominican Republic. The new court will be temporarily based on the fourth floor of the Supreme Court of Justice. The justices are Milton Ray Guevara, Victor Joaquin Castellanos, Victor Gomez Berges, Hermogenes Acosta, Wilson Gomez Ramirez, Rafael Diaz Filpo, Ana Isabel Bonilla, Jottin Cury David, Justo Pedro Castellanos, Idelfonso Reyes, Lino Vasquez, Katia Miguelina Jimenez and Leyda Margarita Pina.
