RD$1.44 billion for political parties

The PLD, PRD and PRSC will receive 80% of a RD$1.44 billion budget set aside to finance electoral activities for the 20 May 2012 presidential election. The budget will be distributed by the Central Electoral Board (JCE). Last year the political parties received RD$640 million. Dominican electoral law establishes that political parties recognized by the JCE will receive 4% of government revenue in non-election years and 8% in an election year, or 0.05% of the national budget. There are 26 parties recognized by the Central Electoral Board.
