The Dominican Federation of Municipalities (Fedomu) will meet to decide on the preferred candidate for the post of secretary general of the Dominican Municipal League (LMD). The meeting will be held before the 26 January assembly of the LMD. The only real news is that the PRSC has received the backing of the ruling PLD and is almost guaranteed a shoo-in victory for its candidate to the post, Johnny Jones. In fact the PLD secretary for Municipal Affairs, Ignacio Ditren, went so far as to tell Diario Libre reporters that the party has issued its decision to back the PRSC candidate and that any of the PLD mayors who violate the party line will be punished. The opposing PRD has limited itself, according to general secretary Orlando Jorge Mera, to "concentrating on the upcoming presidential elections," and has not bothered to suggest a candidate for the LMD position.
