Bani shaken by tragedy

The community of Bani has been shaken by eight tragic deaths in less than 48 hours. As well as traffic accident fatalities, there have been several violent deaths in which the motive is unclear. According to Listin Diario, a 16-year old girl went into the Kali Super Fria beerhall and stabbed Maria Altagracia Arias Avalo 14 times, according to coroner Walter Lopez. However, when the Police were taking the young woman to her house to get the murder weapon, Zacarias Peguero, an uncle of Maria Altagracia, opened fire on the Police vehicle with a pistol, riddling 16-year old Karina Lara and wounding Police Lieutenant Eduardo Ravelo Rodriguez in the act. The Police returned fire and killed Zacarias. A high-level Police commission has been appointed to look into this case.
