Remittances back to over US$3 billion

The Central Bank forecasts that remittances will reach the US$3 billion level this year, back to the levels that had been maintained in 2008, 2009. In 2010, remittances dropped to US$2,998 million, as reported in El Caribe. The Central Bank says that statistics show a monthly average of US$250 million this year, so the annual figure is expected to be around US$3,079 million. The record year for remittances was 2008, when they peaked at US$3,322.5 million. In 1998, remittances reached US$1,326 million. Most remittances come from Dominican emigrants in the United States and Spain, two countries affected by economic downturns.
