Two industrial organizations have set out a series of proposals that they say will create the basis for sustainable development in the country and advised the presidential candidates to consider them. The Industrial Association of Haina and the province of Santo Domingo (AEIH) and the Federation of Industrial Associations (FAI) called for greater coherence among the state institutions that deal with export policy as a way of improving the country's trade balance. According to El Nuevo Diario, the industrialists called on the government to return to legality in ITBIS (a VAT tax) collections from industries registered with ProIndustria, where the law says that the tax will be applied at the end of the production process and not at the beginning. Another suggestion is for an improvement in bank credit for industries and for the country to work towards a continuous quality supply of electricity at competitive prices. Both Wadi Cano Acra and Ignacio Mendez, representing the associations, signed the document.
